School and Student Tours Expand your classroom walls to include a visit to MOBIA! Guided student tours are interactive and theme-based, expanding upon concepts explored in the current exhibition. With museum educators, students discuss three to four works in depth, placing biblical art and the religious traditions that foster it within the context of history, culture and social life, while not losing sight of the art and artists’ choices. Hence, media, technique and point of view are as central to the conversation as contextual analysis. Discussion, drawing, writing, or scavenger-hunt challenges comprise the interactive component of this 1 hour tour. While thematic tours are developed for each exhibition, the education department will also work one-on-one with teachers to develop experiences that meet the needs of the classroom. School and Student Tours are designed to meet New York City and New York State Learning Standards in The Arts, English Language Arts and/or Social Studies. School and Student Tours are available for groups from 1st – 12th grade. We can accommodate between 10 and 30 students, with one chaperone per ten students. Tours are free with museum admission. Free tours for college and university students are also available. To schedule a tour, contact Bernadette Bauer, Education Assistant, at 212.408.8633 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
Tours for adults are led by a member of the education department and provide an overview of an exhibition, highlighting notable works. Tours can be arranged for one or both exhibitions on view in the main and front galleries. Guided tours for adults are available for groups of 10 to 30, and are free with museum admission. |
School Tours with Workshop Art-making workshops are available to complement a school and student tour for $5 per student (no charge for adult chaperones). This experience is 2 hours. The art project depends on the age group and thematic focus of current exhibition. Check this section for the latest offerings or call the education department for more information. Self-Guided Tour Although we do offer free guided tours, you are welcome to lead a group around MOBIA on your own. We ask that you schedule a time with us so that we can ensure that there are no conflicts with museum events. MOBIA does not have a cafeteria or refrigeration capabilities. However, depending on the exhibition on view in the front gallery/education center, school groups may pre-arrange to bring bag lunches or snacks to enjoy. Please contact Bernadette Bauer, Education Assistant, at 212.408.8633 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more information.
