The Holy Land through the Eyes of ExplorersJune 15–September 15, 2001 |
The first modern academic institution to be established in Jerusalem, the Ecole Biblique et Archéologique Français, was founded by French Dominicans in 1890. Early in its history, the Ecole created a photographic archive, which now includes more than 20,000 photographs of the Holy Land and the Near East dating from the mid-1890s on. Drawing from this archive, the exhibition presents a selection of photographs taken by Pere Savignac and Pere Jaussen at the turn of the 20th century. |
