The Dome Restoration in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher

May 07–July 04, 1998

Tracing the evolution of the recent restoration of the Inner Dome of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, this exhibition documents the various stages of the design through original sketches and computer drawings; architectural and engineering drawings; a scale model used in the final presentation; historical photographs of the Church; and a collection of watercolors painted by the architect on his many trips to the Holy Land during the renovation process. In addition, religious artwork and liturgical vestments and implements pertaining to the custodians of the church (the Catholic, Armenian Orthodox, and Greek Orthodox churches) are included in the display, in order to illustrate the richness and variety of the traditions kept alive at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, as well as the continuity and vitality of their art and symbolism.
